Why Orphans?

P

We care about orphans because God cares about orphans. In fact, in more than 40 places in Scripture, God commands us to care for the fatherless (orphaned) children of the world.  The testimony of Scripture is compellingly clear:

But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless. (Psalm 10:14)

Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked. (Psalm 82:3-4)

Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. In your hearts do not think evil of each other.’ (Zechariah 7:10)

“See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.” (Matthew 18:10)

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. (James 1:27)

In fact, God calls Himself a “father to fatherless” in Psalm 68:5. What an amazing statement!   The implication of this verse is huge: orphans belong to God. They are HIS kids!

Most people don’t realize that there are over 140,000,000 orphans in the world.  Take a moment to watch the video below and let the sheer magnitude of this number sink in.

But don’t let the size of this number paralyze you from taking action…because ultimately the most important statistic is that it only takes one person to make a difference.  Could that one person be you?  Could you be the person that inspires your whole church to get involved?  Please consider taking action through The Fort 4 The Fatherless campaign, including checking out our “Why Orphans?” resources.  We need the voice of MANY people to make this campaign a success.
